When I tell people what I do and what I'm going to graduate school for, I usually get a weird look and some confused questions in response.
Everyone: "Resident Director?"
Me: "Yeah, I supervise the students in a res-"
Everyone: "Higher Education? Student Affairs?"
Me: "Yeah, I want to work full-time at a uni-"
Everyone: "ARE YOU EVEN SPEAKING ENGLISH?"
Me: ...*bursts into tears*
I find that this is a pretty common occurrence among my Higher Ed colleagues. (I mean, besides the whole bursting into tears thing.) It seems that unless you're actually a part of it, the Higher Ed field is a completely foreign concept. So, in order to further explain it to those who have no idea what my professional goals are in life, here's an introductory break down of the Higher Education and Student Affairs field.

I-95
A few weeks ago, my good friend Rob and I took a road trip all the way down to South Carolina to visit my sister, the University of South Carolina, and to feel some sunshine on our faces. It took us about 16 hours on 95 South to get all the way to my sister's place where we were staying, but we made it fun by stopping in Philadelphia, Washington DC, and South of the Border on the way down, and even got to visit Noble and my loves from New Jersey on the way back up!
I took a million and one photos (naturally), so I picked out some of my favorites to share with you!

Oh, hey!
I'm Riley. Some of you might know me from the various blogs that I've posted on throughout the years. Some of you might know me in real life. To some of you, I could be a total stranger. And to all of you I say WHATTUP?!
First blog posts are so awkward. I've done this enough times that you'd think I'd be used to it by now, but nope. Not even a chance. What do you say to a bunch of creepers on the internet to introduce your blog that's about literally nothing in particular and probably won't be all that interesting?
*flails arms at random passer-by*
"Hey stranger! Look at this blog! There's pictures! And stories! And... stuff!"
*stranger walks away at a noticeably faster pace, avoiding eye contact*
#storyofmylife
Yes, this is a new blog, but no I'm not new to the blogging world. I've been writing on the internet since I was about 11, and have hopped from blog to blog, taking mini hiatuses here and there, yet always coming back. I don't know what it is, but blogging has always been a hobby of mine, and one that I haven't really been able to out-grow (yet). It's not like I've ever had a super popular blog, I just really like sharing my boring life with people, for some reason.
Hence, this brand-spankin'-new piece of the internet, fiveleveninety. Look forward to personal stories, opinions on issues that matter to me, random videos I think are hilarious, pretending I know what I'm talking about when it comes to fitness and relationships, creative project ideas that may never get completed, and anything else that may pop into this brain of mine.
Hope you enjoy! ☀
