On Developing a Routine
I don't tend to be a routine-based person. My life is often a mystery and I'm not sure what's coming down the pipeline and it's really fun that way. My work is different every time I walk into the office, Brett and I are always up to different things each week, I'm always up to try new things and I enjoy it. Routine isn't really something I associate with my life. Or at least I haven't until very recently. Spring is always extremely hectic in higher ed, and if you've been following my blog for a while you're probably used to me saying that! Schedules get very crazy very quickly, so I've recently made a decision to create somewhat of a daily routine for myself in order to have some sort of comforting consistency in my life.
A routine for me needs to be rigid enough that I'll make the time for myself to follow it, but flexible enough that if I have to push something out to make way for something else it won't stress me out. I try to stick to this routine as many days of the week as I can as I really find that it aids in easing stress and creating some sort of consistency in my usually inconsistent schedule, but I do understand that because my schedule is so inconsistent that there will be days that I can't check off every box on this list. Here is what I've been doing over the past few weeks and it's really been making a positive impact in my life thus far:
Before Work
My pre-work morning tends to be my most regimented part of the day. Here's
6:00AM - Alarm goes off. I try my damnedest to wake the f--- up and not hit snooze 50 times like I want to.
6:15AM - Roll out the yoga mats in the living room. Watch a YouTube video or two before Brett joins me to wake up a bit.
6:30AM - Brett & I do a Yoga with Adriene video. These are usually about 30 minutes long.
7:00AM - Get ready for work. If I have some free time I will read or watch YouTube.
8:00AM - Head out the door for work. I'll more often than not make a stop at Dunkin' Donuts for a morning bagel & coffee.
At Work
I usually get in around 9:00AM, depending on my schedule for the day. I like to block out the first hour of my schedule to get oriented for the day. I'll spend this time checking emails, checking my calendar, and doing some mindfulness activities in my bullet journal*. This really helps to put myself in a positive mindset for the day.
I really try to prioritize taking my lunch away from my desk. Unfortunately most of my staff works on extremely different schedules so we're all taking lunch at different times and we can't eat together (though we would love to!), so I'll usually take my lunch and my book and find a quiet spot on campus (usually the library if it's cold, an outdoor spot if it's warm) to eat and read for an hour. This is a really nice way to break up the day and to rejuvenate my mind to push through the afternoon.
After Work
This always varies depending on my workout schedule, if there are any events I need to be at for work, or I have plans with friends, but on normal nights will go one of two ways:
1. I head directly to the gym for an hour to do some cardio and potentially a lift. If it's actually light out when I leave work (so spring/summer/early fall) I'll run outside. I'll then grab a snack and head home. Sometimes I'll treat myself to a latte at Starbucks for the ride home.
2. I head home and do any editing that needs to be done for my channel or any writing that needs to be done for my blog. If I don't have any editing or writing to do I'll veg out with some Netflix or YouTube. I'll usually make sure to write a little something in my journal and reading as well.
I don't typically set a "bed time" for myself, but I say I consistently get tired and doze off around 11PM every night.
Aaaand that's my typical routine on a weekday! If I don't have work or if it's the weekend my schedule is usually a huge toss up and I don't really have a routine, but I let myself fall out my routine and relax a bit on those days. Sometimes it's nice not to think! I've been really liking having this sort of routine every day as it's helped ease some stress each day and build in some time for self-care as well.

Book Review: The Rest of Us Just Live Here
I have recently completed my first five-star read of the year, The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness! After looking at reviews of this book, I have found that it is extremely polarizing. It seems like people either REALLY enjoy this book or they really, really do not. Since I fell into the camp of REALLY enjoying this book, I thought I would take a moment to sit down and talk a bit about why I like it so much! This review does not contain spoilers, but it does go into detail about character identity so if that's something you'd rather be surprised by, read at your own risk!
The Rest of Us Just Live Here is a Young Adult novel based in a small town in Washington where both super-hero-esque people (called the "indie kids") and regular people live side-by-side. Unlike what you would normally expect in a setting like this, the focus is not on the indie kids but on the characters that do not have super powers and how the adventures that the indie kids get themselves into impact the town. This is an extremely interesting take on the concept of superheroes and magical world colliding with more realistic world.

#DiverseAThon Round 2 TBR!
It's finally time for the second round of the #DiverseAThon! This is a great readathon that promotes diverse voices and stories which is something I'm all about getting behind! I am very excited for each one of my picks for this round. I tried really hard to choose books that represent a variety of topics and I managed to pick titles that involve race, gender, sexuality, religion, and mental health. I am very happy that I will be learning from these many areas and focusing on diverse voices throughout the week! Here's what I've picked:
Japanese by Spring by Ishmael Reed
Symptoms of Being Human by Jeff Garvin
Buffering: Untold Stories of a Life Fully Loaded by Hannah Hart
If you'd like to hear more about these books and my thought process behind each pick, make sure you watch my TBR video below. I hope you all will consider joining me and the many amazing participants of this readathon over the next week and challenge yourself to learn from the many diverse voices that we have in this world. Happy reading!

Marathon #5: Pittsburgh Marathon!
This week I started training for marathon #5 -
THE PITTSBURGH MARATHON!
In looking at the race website, this marathon looks extremely well put together. Erin has done some research on my behalf and from what she hears, each one of the 13 neighborhoods you run through "compete" with one another to be the most entertaining neighborhood which is exactly what you want to hear when you're about to run 26.2 miles! I think this is going to be a really fun marathon, a really BIG marathon, and a really fun way to spend time with my friends!
To keep myself accountable, I will be doing monthly training updates here on the blog. I attempted to train for a spring marathon last year and totally failed, but I think knowing that I have people counting on me to make my way down to Pittsburgh and will be cheering for me throughout the race is SO MUCH MORE motivating than if I was just doing this on my own. I can't wait to take on this challenge once again!

New Year, New Blog Layout!
YOU GUYS!
FIVELEVENINETY FINALLY HAS A NEW LOOK!
I'm fairly certain I haven't updated the layout of my blog since the summer of 2014. Y'all... it's been a while and I've been craving a new look for my blog for a really long time. I've put it off for such a long time and finally I thought - you know what? New year... time for a new look. And so, here we have it! Let's take a look at the transformation...
Here's what my blog has been for the last two and a half years:
And here's what it looks like now!
Not a whole lot has really changed. I have a new color scheme, a new header, and I've flipped the location of my sidebar, but ultimately I just wanted something that was a bit more simple, compact, and easy to manage. In my previous layout I had a few pages that I honestly forgot to manage regularly so those have gone away. The aim was to make managing things easier for myself and to have a sleek, simple, and fun look!
I hope you all like this updated layout!
Let me know what you think in the comments! :)

Book Review: Ready Player One
I recently finished Ready Player One by Ernest Cline and while I really enjoyed it, there were a few things that were lingering in my mind while I was reading. When I feel conflicted about a book, that - to me - is a sign that it's probably a good title to review, so that's what I'm doing with Ready Player One today! I may get a little spoiler-y so read ahead at your own risk. (If you're looking at this from my main page, I've put my review under the "read more" tag so you don't accidentally get spoiled.)
Ready Player One is an action adventure sci-fi-esque novel set in the near future of 2044. The outside world and reality has been devastated by poverty and environmental destruction, so most of humanity finds comfort and escape in the OASIS - a virtual reality that users can go to work, to school, and generally live a better second life through the eyes of their custom-made avatars. When the creator of the OASIS passes away, he leaves his multi-billion dollar fortune hidden in the virtual world and sends the entire OASIS universe on a massive Easter egg hunt that involves deciphering cryptic clues and completing epic quests that all revolve around the creator's love of '80s Pop Culture.
Our protaganist, Wade Watts, is a high school student and loves spending his time in the OASIS. Wade is not from a wealthy background so he is limited to the "free" sections of the OASIS. That is, of course, until he becomes the first person in history to solve the first clue of the Easter egg hunt and becomes world famous over night.

76 Books!
If you told me in December 2015 that I would be reading 76 books in 2016 I would say you were insane, but somehow I did it. I really reconnected with my love of reading in 2016 and I am so, so grateful that I've made my way back to the bookshelf.
I thought to wrap up the year I would share the entire list of the books that I read in 2016 in the same format that I've done my quarterly reading challenges updates as well as share my Top 5 Favorite Books of 2016 video with you all. If you're interested in seeing more of my reading stats from 2016, check out my GoodReads Year in Review for a breakdown of my reading! I hope you all enjoy and that maybe you'll find a book on this list that you'll enjoy! :)
